Hello Everyone!
Welcome to our small world- Bengali Cultural Association, Peterborough, UK. We are a group of enthusiastic people who stop at nothing but fulfil our visions, dreams, hopes, purposes and aspirations. I joined this fantastic group in 2002 when we moved to Peterborough and became a member in a short time. Since then I have always been actively involved and have experienced wonderful moments with my fellow members who are more like my own family. It feels like home away from home in India.
Our recent celebration of Holi was a tremendous success. It was a spur of a moment idea on my part and was greatly appreciated by everyone in the Association. Despite busy schedule on a day to day life our friends came forward with lots of encouragement and innovative ideas to make the evening joyful. We played with colours to our hearts’ content and had scrumptious snacks and dinner which were prepared by the ladies of the Association. We haven’t forgotten our tradition and finished the evening with Mishti doi and kheer kadam. For us Bengalis it couldn’t have been any better.
Our Association provides an impetus for our children who are being brought up so far away from home (India and Bangladesh) to know about their roots and culture and acts as a forum to orient and express themselves with the larger community. The children enjoy it and have participated in various social and cultural events organised not only by the Association but also by the local city council.
We all love our Association very dearly and hope that many more like minded people will join us in the future to make it even more worthwhile. I take this opportunity to show my gratitude to the founding members who through their endeavour created a strong foundation without which we wouldn’t be where we are today.
Many thanks,
Shampa Roychowdhury
